PinWooferTM - Coin Door Unit (CDU)

Add unprecedented capability to your Spike-2 Pinball Machine!

Optionally add a pair of signature PinWoofer 5.25in Backbox Speakers to your order for best results.

The CDU functions with or without a PinWoofer Amplifier.

The CDU provides the following features:

              • Machine & Headphone Volume Control
              • 3.5mm Headphone Jack
              • External Subwoofer Bass Cutoff Frequency Control
              • External Subwoofer Volume Control
              • External Service Menu Buttons

Tools Required i) Cable tie cutters or scissors, 11/32 Nut Driver.

Installation time is less than one hour, subsequent installs take about 20 minutes.

Power is supplied using a provided connector board and power cable.

The CDU Backbox Module interfaces to the Spike-2 CPU node board and conveys necessary signals to the Coin Door Module.

Master & Headphone Volume controls both the machine volume (with or without a PinWoofer Amplifier Kit), and headphone volume. (Menu configurable.)

Automatic speaker cut when headphones are plugged. (Menu configurable.)

A feature found only with PinWoofer – externalized Service Menu Buttons! This allows access to and adjustment of anything in the service menu without opening the coin door. (There is a concealed disable switch found on the back of the Coin Door Module if you would like to temporarily or permanently disable the external service menu buttons.)

Features an integrated PinWoofer BBU (Bass Boost Unit) that allows for boost of the signal sent to your externally powered subwoofer. The result is an improvement in bass signal and bass quality. The BBU roll-off is quite steep (~35dB / decade above ωc) so the result is filtering of unwanted high bass that might otherwise rob power from the bass spectrum and reduce quality. It is not surprising that the result is a "purification" so to speak, of the bass signal provided to the external and less energy is wasted on high bass.

Maximum boost ~8dB (~2.5x).

Cutoff frequency is adjustable ~50-173Hz @ -3dB ωc.

Frequency roll-off ~35dB/Decade.

If you have the PinWoofer GT Amplifier installed into your Spike-2 title, you MUST have an expander board delete kit installed in order for the CDU to work correctly. You can optionally add this to your cart.

If you plan to powder coat or paint your coin door and want your CDU coin door plate to match, we will perform the re-assembly of your CDU coin door plate after coating. (We'll ship a blank aluminum plate to you with your kit, and you'll return the plate to us after coating for assembly.) Simply select the "Post Finish Re-Assembly Fee" option and we'll take care of the rest.

  • It is strongly recommended that you coat your factory / blank dollar bill validator plate in case you need it in the future.
  • Return shipping for international orders will be assessed when complete.
  • Domestic shipping is included with the "Post Finish Re-Assembly Fee" option.
  • The CDU coin door unit is not warrantied if you disassemble it on your own and no instructions to perform this are provided.

Never overdrive the input to your external device.

Backbox Speakers:

In almost all cases, aftermarket or “upgraded” multi-axial speakers are designed for automotive or marine applications. They employ rigid tweeter materials such as PEI or Mylar. These materials are extremely efficient on purpose so that they are audible over the ambient noise of a car or boat. A consequence of this efficiency is that they overpower the sound field in other applications (i.e., in a game room environment) and present harsh or “grinding” overtones that severely degrade the quality of reproduction and the sound field.

This is also true of other aftermarket pinball speaker “upgrades” which are no better than a typical automotive speaker.

Much of what separates the PinWoofer backbox speaker from others is the oversized Silk Dome Tweeter which balances reproduction of the sound field over a larger frequency domain compared to rigid tweeters. Our Silk Tweeter element has a much smoother tonal characteristic compared to other cost saving materials such as PEI or Mylar. You can really hear the difference!

pinwoofer WARRANTY COVERAGE PinWoofer products are warranted to be free of all defects in material and workmanship for 90 days from the date of purchase from an authorized PinWoofer dealer. This warranty and all rights provided are limited to the original owner and are non-transferable. Responsibility is limited to replacement or repair as set forth in this warranty statement. Should a product require warranty service during this period, PinWoofer will repair or replace without charge, any part or product proving defective in material or workmanship. All warranty repairs and service must be performed by an authorized PinWoofer technician or service facility. The use of non-authorized repair services renders this warranty null and void, and any charges relating to non-authorized repair are the responsibility of the product owner. All expenses (excluding shipping costs) related to replacing or repairing a defective part or product under this warranty shall be assumed by PinWoofer. PinWoofer reserves the right to replace defective product with a new or factory reconditioned unit. WARRANTY EXCLUSIONS 1.This warranty does not cover product failure or damage resulting from misuse, abuse, neglect, accidents, alterations, standard environmental deterioration, natural disasters, or improper use and/or installation or not following the installation instructions. “Blown” or damaged speakers (and tweeters) are a result of misuse and are not covered by this warranty. 2.This warranty does not cover cosmetic damage due to misuse or neglect. This includes paint damage, scratches, cracks or other superficial marks related to improper use. 3.Failures arising from attempted servicing of a non-authorized PinWoofer repair facility or technician are excluded from this warranty. 4.If the amplifier enclosure has been opened (or attempted to be opened) by a non-authorized PinWoofer technician any warranty is null and void. 5.If the fastener sealing decals on the amplifier have been removed, attempted to be removed or are damaged in a way that indicates the enclosure were opened or attempted to be opened, any warranty is null and void. 6.The use, addition or integration of any aftermarket peripheral device, enclosure, attachment, mounting device, modification (aka “mod”) or other accessory or enhancement, or any item physically or mechanically attached to or electrically interacting with any part of the PinWoofer system, that is not produced, validated, verified, approved and supplied by PinWoofer or a PinWoofer authorized dealer, renders this warranty null and void. Violation of these restriction will be confirmed and determined by PinWoofer. LIMITATION OF DAMAGES In no event shall PinWoofer be liable for consequential damages for breach of this warranty including installation charges, excessive shipping expenses, property loss or other incidental loss. Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitation or exclusion may not apply to the buyer. HOW TO OBTAIN WARRANTY SERVICE To obtain services under this warranty, the buyer shall contact PinWoofer at email address PinWoofer@PinWoofer.com to obtain a Return Merchandise Authorization number (RMA#) and a return shipping address. The buyer must carefully pack the warranted product along with a copy of the original purchase receipt, the Return Merchandise Authorization number, and a description to the repair facility you are directed to ship the return to.     Very happy with this, can't believe how nice it is to have the buttons available without opening the door. And being able to adjust my external sub while playing is great! Just ordered my 2nd one,
